I had never heard of this website before this discussion post however, I can see that it is a great recourse to reference in the care of our elderly patients. “Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) imparts principles and tools to stimulate changes in clinical practice to achieve patient-centered nursing care for older adults in healthcare facilities”(NICHE Homepage, n.d.). NICHE was founded in 1992 by a Registered Nurse, Terry Fulmer. This website provides need to know information on various topics, tools for caregivers, recent news, and much more.            The “Need To Know” tab on the NICHE website was the most intriguing to me. Under this tab, there are various resources which include: COVID-19, hearing, depression, fall prevention, pressure injuries, vision, sleep, etc. Under each resource there is information on why this topic is important and information on what the elderly person and family can do in regards to this topic. These references are easy to follow and understand so the families of the elderly patient and the elderly patient can read and understand. It’s very important for the patients and families to understand various topics that relate to the elderly and I believe this Need To Know tab can be helpful to more than nurses and healthcare providers.            Understanding the normal changes that come with aging as well as other relevant health concerns in regards to aging is important for the elderly patients we care for. In 2019, 54.1 million US adults were 65 or older, representing 16% of the population—or more than 1 in every 7 Americans”(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022). The NICHE website provides easy to follow information and health literature that can help health care providers, patients, caregivers and their families. I am surprised to have never heard of this website before however, I am so glad I now know about it so I can use it in the future. how can this be useful to the aging population?
