I.
Introduction
Religious oppression is when a religious sect or individuals with different beliefs
discriminate another sect of different doctrinal practices. Many people have been
oppressed due to their religious beliefs. Throughout the course of the history of
the United States, hate crimes, vandalism, abuse and murder have taken place in
response to individual’s religious beliefs.
II.
The United States has undergone Religious Oppression for more than a
century.
a. The belief that one’s religion is superior than others mostly those
immigrating to the United States, led to hostility and rejection by
Americans to those wanting to practice their religion.

Government and State’s relationship with religion
a. Role of the United States Constitution in religious freedom. When
drafting the Constitution of the United States, religious freedom was not
protected.

b. Role of State in religious freedom. Each state chose how to exercise
religious freedom (Koppelman, 2017)

Radical religious practices that lead to oppression and religious discrimination

a. Furthermore, the occurrence of discrimination against a certain religion
may lead to oppression.
b. Collective punishment against crime associated with certain groups results
to undeserved suffering to the people.

a. In conclusion, religious oppression is a serious problem that threatens our
value system in the United States and creates more isolation and
discrimination amongst the general population.
b. Church and State should always be separated but safety and enforcing the
population’s Bill of Rights will reflect on America’s way of life.
